To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite book. This is such a great story about life and how you discover that things are not at all what they seem. Jem and Scout are great characters. They are so full of life. When I read the story about Going to see a Man, it made me think of how that black man was found guilty for raping a white women, when clearly as the story is told, you know that it was her father that done that to her. This town is so caught up in being scared of black people, that they can't even see that it's the white folk that are destroying themselves.

I found Going to Meet the Man very disturbing to read. I understand its place in history and literature and the fact that it is important for people to understand what black people were subject to. I just have a hard time reading about it and maintaining a neutral tone. It is sad to realize that as we have made some major steps in equal rights based on race, we still have a ways to go and I often wonder if prejudice will ever cease to raise its ugly head.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note, I've never read To Kill a Mockingbird, but I think I'll add it to my summer reading list:)
